Cladding: Your position and how to future-proof
Cladding is a topic which is highly relevant to many, whether in a personal or professional capacity.
There has been wide-ranging consultation over the last few years since the 2018 Hackitt Report, throwing up numerous challenges that many are currently grappling with.
We have seen changes proposed to building regulations, guidance documents such as Approved Document B, the Fire Safety Order and of course the new Building Safety Act which received Royal Assent on 28 April 2022.
Improvement is welcome, but in the meantime, the construction and property industry has been left in a state of confusion and uncertainty.
For individuals affected by defective cladding – whether they be leaseholders, owners/investors, or those affected in some other way – it is very difficult to know what your current position is let alone how to predict what the future might hold.
Helping to shed some light on the issues, Construction Partner, Andrew Parker, and Property Litigation Senior Associate, Sarah Heatley, along with Robert Bowker (Tanfield Chambers) and Andrew Webster (formerly of Cumming Group), sat down to discuss key elements of the (then) proposed legislation and the potential impact for the construction and property industries, as well as the wider public.
